Having the right tools matters

I felt like my arm was going to fall off 😂

The other day, I ran to the grocery with my 2-year-old for two things: milk and cereal.

As I was only getting two things, I didn't bother with a cart.

As we made our way through the store to the dairy aisle, though, we saw some cherries. And salad. And lemonade. And fried chicken. And mac and cheese to go with the fried chicken...

Long story short, I ended up with an arm loaded up with bags of groceries, holding onto two gallons of milk (chocolate and regular) with one hand, and corralling my toddler through the parking lot with the other.

And then I ran into a friend who wanted to stand and talk 😶

Now, the thing is, this isn't the first time I've done this (someday ask me about the paint can incident of 2017). I knew I would need a cart. But I'm stubborn and tried to push through without the proper tools.

As our businesses evolve and grow to new levels, so does our need for tools to help us.

In the beginning days of entrepreneurship, you might be fine with a website, Google Calendar, and Excel spreadsheet to track your leads. But as your business grows, though, you might also want to look into a call scheduling system, a place to manage your contracts, a video hosting platform, etc.

Moral of the story: don't get stuck carrying too large of a load in your business. Recognize when you need help and allow yourself to invest in the right tools.
